I created this expressive, tongue in cheek, work on perspex, after asking myself what would Ensor have made of Social Media. His drawings show him to have been a perceptive and amusing social commentator. I think he would have used it as I do, but would have been wary of the many devils that too often sit on users’ shoulders causing more noise than light.
The Summer Exhibition runs from Tuesday 17 June to Sunday 17 August. I am invited to a celebratory Varnishing Day Reception on Monday 9 June, preceded by a Church Service for Artist’s in Wren’s St. James’s Church, Piccadilly, I suppose also a tradition dating to the 18th century.
